Who We Are

Story 1At Coastal Body Works, we understand that there are many aspects of vehicle repair that are important to our customers. The customer’s trust in the repair shop and its owners and employees is key to our working relationships with our customers. For most of our customers, their vehicles are the second-largest investment that they will have in their lifetime. It is only natural for owners to be worried when that investment is damaged by an accident. Likewise, it is the customer’s right to know exactly who is working on their vehicle. Please allow us to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves.

story 2Coastal Body Works was founded in 1954 by William Garvin "Dub" Boyd under the name Boyd's Paint and Body. Beginning as a small, three-bay garage in Downtown Pensacola, the business soon began to grow because of Mr. Boyd’s emphasis on customer service. Boyd Paint and Body became a family affair in late 60’s when Mr. Boyd’s two elder sons, Bill and Dan, began working for their father. Following Mr. Boyd’s passing in 1967, Bill and Dan Boyd took over the family business, forming Coastal Body Works in 1969.

Bill and Dan both brought a great amount of experience to the business. Bill taught auto body repairs at Pensacola Junior College and was elected President of the Southern States Body Shop Association. Likewise, Dan taught automotive repair at Milton High School.

Story 3The expansion of the business continued as younger siblings Rick Boyd and Dixie Morris joined the family business in 1981. Both brought a great deal of experience to Coastal. Following his many years of working construction across the southeast, Rick brought a great work ethic and remarkable production skills to the table. Dixie had many years of experience in an office setting and had also completed a business program at Pensacola Junior College. She continues to work as our office manager today. Travis began working at the shop in the late ‘80s following his graduation from Pensacola Junior College. With his extensive experience with computer programs, Travis played an instrumental role in moving our business towards computer-based estimating.

Story 4999, Bill and Dan retired, starting a new era for the shop under the new ownership of younger-brother Rick and Bill’s son, Travis. By this time, Rick had worked his way up to the shop foreman position and Travis had become the main estimator. With the considerable experience that each brought from both the office and the shop, the transition of ownership was seamless. Further assisting this ease of transition was the addition of our new Shop Foreman, Terry Russell. Terry was promoted from within our company following his many years as one of our frame technicians.

Business continued to increase, also increasing the need for more work space. In the spring of 2004, Coastal Body Works opened a new 8,000 square-foot wing complete with new, state-of-the-art frame machines. Coastal welcomed Rick’s son, Justin, as an estimator following his graduation from the University of West Florida with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 2005. Our latest addition came in the summer of 2006 with the launch of our new interactive website, Story 5www.coastalbodyworks.com. All of these changes have helped Coastal Body Works become what it is today-- a fully-equipped collision repair facility with over twenty of the most skilled and talented employees in the area.

At Coastal Body Works, we work hard to maintain the family environment that you can trust with the first-class, professional service that you expect and deserve. We are very proud of the fact that many of our employees have been with us for over fifteen years. This family environment gives our customers the piece of mind that their vehicle will be repaired with only the utmost care. It is our sense of family within our business that sets us apart in our industry.
